Yellow cars support victimised owner

-

There are calls for The Bright Yellow Car Convoy to be held again next year, after 100 cars – many of them classics – flooded a tranquil Cotswold village to show support for a resident who had his car vandalised.

The bright yellow Vauxhall Corsa owned by Bibury pensioner Peter Maddox, 84, was attacked in March this year following allegations that it was spoiling the view of the tourist hotspot. A group of classic enthusiasts – led by Tanya Field and Matty Bee – responded by organising a yellow car convoy through the Gloucestershire village. ‘We wanted to show support and solidarity for Peter and to celebrate yellow cars,’ says Tanya. ‘It was also a uniquely British way to stick two fingers up at the criminals who wrote his Vauxhall off by vandalising it.’

The 100 vehicles present included anything from a Dolomite, Capri and a DAF to a Lamborghini, Maserati and a Cadillac. Peter’s son Christopher says that it made his father’s year: ‘He was blown away by the support and was in awe of the visual spectacle of 100 yellow cars filing past, as he stood on the bridge in

the village.’ It also proved that given a bit of effort and imagination anything is possible, particularly with car enthusiasts. PC editor Danny Hopkins was bullish: ‘The idiots of the world will not understand this.’ He said. ‘It shows happy solidarity, a sense of kinship and a real sense of humour.’
