LEE’S MILESTONES

My favourite tool

‘The one I always turn to is a little hand-held grinder or polisher made by Blue Point. It runs off compressed air and has various different heads that you can attach. It always seems to be ideal for restoring metal parts; it’ll clean up just about anything really quickly and it’s just so handy to have around!’

My best bodge

‘I guess the classic one would be a typical tale from YTS days… repairing a broken exhaust with a split baked bean tin and some wire. That happened, even if it was just a quick lash-up to get us through till pay day when I could afford a new section of pipe.’

My biggest fail

‘I was doing the timing belt on a Subaru Impreza STI – and I missed a sleeve out of the timing belt tensioner. I reckon it was missing already… the tensioner moved, the timing went out and I had to do the engine again.’

My proudest moment

‘This project has sort of escalated from helping Sean put a Nova together to building a really, really good one to factory spec. Then it started winning prizes, now it’s in a magazine. But the moment that really blew us away was winning the Chairman’s Cup at the big VBOA show. There were about 2500 cars there and never, for one moment, did we expect to win.’
