LET’S GUARD OUR CLASSICS’ NUMBERS
I agree with Nick’s article on ‘Nicking Original Registrations’. Retaining the original reg on older classics is important for our motoring heritage and we should protect these registrations from greedy opportunists. The Ford Y& C Model Register
now adopts an advertising policy to reduce the opportunity for registration transfer. Our Cars for Sale adverts carry no reference to the reg numbers. Contact with vendor has to be by via telephone to enable the filtering out of number plate traders. And perhaps we should suggest that owners of pre-1963 vehicles are able, via DVLA, declare the number as non-transferable. Or what about removing the ‘free tax’ and MOT exemption for vehicles whose cherished numbers have been removed?
