CAN I SWAP MY WIPER MOTOR?
QThe Lucas wiper motor is dead on my 1965 Hillman Super Minx. The motor’s got power and the commutator looks fine. Does anyone recondition these – or could I fit one from my box of MGB spares? Mike evans, via email
AThere are a few variations of Lucas wiper motor, so a swap might be hit-or-miss. The drive to the wipers is completely different, for a start. For reconditioning services, try Carwood Rewind of Yeovil (01935 433627, carwood.co.uk). First, though, make sure it’s got a reliable earth as well as a 12V supply. Wiper motor wiring varies considerably between vehicles. Some have a permanent positive supply and are switched at the earth side.
