FITTING YOUR FOG LIGHT

-

1Mount switch

Mount a switch and a separate telltale light, or a combined unit. If there’s a spare slot in the dash, use it. Otherwise, either fit an extra switch mounting plate under the dash or drill the dash for the switch.

2 Mount light

You may have to drill the bumper or body. Alternatively, add a bracket to a bumper iron, or clamp a bracket under an iron. Make sure it’s rigid or the bulb’s filament will shake itself to pieces.

3 Find power feed

Wire the switch to the dipped beam circuit. If possible, take the feed directly from the dipped beam fuse. If not, use a piggy-back spade terminal or, if you must, a Scotchlok (only use inside the car).

4 Run wire to switch

Run the wire to your switch. Follow existing runs of wiring where possible – it looks neater and is less prone to accidental disconnection. Add a 5A fuse just before or just after the switch.

5 Run wire to lamp

Run a wire from the switch to the fog light. Follow existing wiring or run it under the carpets. Find an existing grommet in the rear valance – or drill, paint the edges of the hole and add a grommet.

6 Earth the lamp

The feed wire attaches to the centre terminal of the bulb. Attach an earth wire (side terminal of bulb) and run it back inside the car. Fasten it under a screw or bolt where it will stay clean and dry.
