It’s Britain’s ‘biggest’ classic car show!
Last year, when we drove around the country judging your favourite classic cafes, almost completely by accident we created the biggest classic car show in Britain. ‘Biggest’ in the sense that it stretched far and wide… from Scotland to Wales and Cornwall to London – it was a simply nationwide happening. ‘Accidental’ in the sense that we didn’t expect the huge numbers of you and your classics who turned up to each café to sample the food and enjoy the banter.
Now we are doing it all again and we are fully expecting another week-long festival full of pop-up classic shows and road-runs between the places you voted for. We will be in our classics visiting your choice of amazing destinations, judging their classic-friendliness and at the end of it all, coming up with a winner.
Coming with us, our partners at Footman James, who have had the enthusiasm and foresight to support the event for a second year. They will be in the new FJ show vehicle, a rather excellent VW Type 25 transporter with its nifty little Polo trailer. They will be with us as we attempt to blast around the country in our own classics between your top ten choices of favourite places. It’s work obviously, a tough job, but we are ready and willing to put ourselves out for the sake of judicial impartiality!
One note, for the second year running Northern Ireland has missed out… we had two destinations nominated but the highest ranked of those (Giant’s Causeway) only made it to number 14. We’re gutted because there are some fantastic driving roads on the other side of the Irish Sea, so next time, get voting and get us over there!
So all that remains is for you to tell us the route you want us to drive… come to the Footman James stand at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show and do just that. There will be voting forms and we will pull the winner on Show Sunday.
Then we will announce the full route in the next issue. It’s an annual run now, so come out and be part of it and tell your friends you were there at the start. See you in May.
