WELCOME TO THE WORKSHOP
Where the team celebrates a job well done at the NEC
What a brilliant weekend. Thanks again to everyone who attended the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show that, once again, earned itself the unofficial title of ‘The Friendly Show’. I’ve never been to a more active classic car event, which is odd given that it was also the most relaxed and chilled out Resto Show so far.
The PC team brought along twelve of our own cars to various stands – and worked on four of them through the weekend including the 2CV that we built on the Live Stage. Watching a car spring into life after 43 years dormant was the most emotional moment of the three days. And there was plenty of emotion. I met Harris Mann for the first time, interviewed Tom Karen in front of the Reliant Scimitar he designed and got to meet dozens of club heroes working on their classics, displaying skills that are normally hidden away in sheds up and down the country.
On the Saturday night we said thank you to the clubs with an awards evening like no other. We also said thank you to Sir Stirling Moss with a judges special award, not only for his motorsport genius, but for everything he has done to further the cause of classic cars ever since. Peter James graciously collected it and we wish Sir Stirling all the best.
Finally, I want to mention the award for activity on a club stand, which went to the Jowett Club. A small club that looks after a niche marque, but one that punches way above its weight year after year. The amazing survival rate of your cars is down to the work you do. We salute you.
