Lake District collection judged Britain’s best classic destination

‘It had a family feel and a truly great cafe’

Lakeland Motor Museum has been awarded the title of Britain’s Best Classic Destination. Following a nationwide judging tour to decide the most rewarding place to take your classic car, the Cumbria museum was named winner.

The competition saw thousands of enthusiasts nominating and voting for their favourite attractions. After the vote the names of the top ten were published. The Practical Classics and Footman James Insurance teams then travelled 1700 miles around the UK to visit the ten finalists.

‘As we travelled the length and breadth of the UK, dozens of classics appeared at each location. Everywhere we stopped we created a mini pop-up car show,’ said editor Danny Hopkins. ‘It was an incredible journey – and our biggest yet. We met some truly brilliant people, saw the best classic destinations in the

country and experienced some great classics. We can’t wait to do it again next year!’

The team finished the journey by sitting around a table to decide the winner. Despite all ten finalists being exceptional places to visit, Danny said the verdict swung the way of Lakeland Motor Museum, with all in agreement: ‘We were really impressed by the variety of cars and artefacts on display. Plus, there are plenty of nostalgic exhibits to appeal to non-car fans, too,’ he said. ‘The place has a real family feel, there’s lots of space for clubs to gather their cars together and it has a truly superb cafe. Not to mention plenty of exciting scenery to explore nearby!’
