South Wales is waiting for you

There’s a welcome for all at the South Wales Classic Car Club

-

In 1983 a group of about a dozen classic car enthusiasts got together to form the South Wales Classic Car Club, which marks its 35th anniversary this year, with at least one founding member still with the club.

The club’s first show was held in 1986 in Barry, subsequently moving via Bridgend and Pencoed, then to the current venue at Cardiff City Football Club in 2015. The show in May this year was the 33rd overall, and continues to improve with age. This year’s show attracted almost 600 entries, and is possibly the largest show of its type in South Wales to be staged entirely by club members.

Profits from the show are distributed amongst local charities; the club is pleased to have donated thousands of pounds over the years. A list of some of those charities to benefit can be found on the club’s web page.

Club meets take place at Pontyclun Athletic Club, Castan Road, Pontyclun, on the first Thursday of every month. In addition to these monthly meetings, there are also at least three club runs a year (as well as Drive It Day), usually of around 60-70 miles culminating at a suitable hostelry (where lunch is enjoyed by all).

The club also holds the occasional coffee morning meet, and the Xmas Dinner Dance. It will be pleased to welcome visitors and potential new members alike, particularly of the younger generations – the continued existence of any club is dependent on an influx of fresh blood to the hobby.
