We show you the best events to go to over the festive period.

Just because it’s a bit fresh over the Christmas and New Year period, that’s no excuse for you to put your classic into hibernation – especially as there’s a raft of gatherings taking place around the UK.

In the Diary section you can see a full run down of what’s happening, but one of our favourite festive gatherings is at the Lakeland Motor Museum in Ulverston – not least of all because the surrounding roads are always a joy to drive. The annual Boxing Day jamboree at the museum usually sees 100 classics assemble, and new for this year is a trophy for the classic that’s voted the Best of Boxing Day. All classics are welcome, there’s no need to book and discounted admission is available to the museum; more at lakelandmotormuseum.co.uk.

The biggest gathering though is at Brooklands on New Year’s Day, with 1500 classics typically assembling (brooklandsmuseum.com).

The Classic Hub near Bibury in Gloucestershire (classicmotorhub.com) generally welcomes up to 400 cars but you must book ahead and places usually sell out (it’s a fiver per car); the Cotswold Classic Car Club’s rival meet just up the road is free and well worth visiting instead (cotswoldclassiccarclub.com).

One event that sadly won’t be running this year is the massive Boxing Day Meet in Romsey, which has finished after 17 years. We take our hats off to Steve Biddlecombe for his efforts over the years; there’s more on why it’s not happening at romseyclassiccarandbikemeet.co.uk.
