Rust In Peace

Yet more field finds and dusty dealership discoveries

-

Yet more tales of woe from the hedgerows of Rotten Row.

Jaguar XJ-S

Vernon Coles spotted this tatty XJ-S in a field at Lacasaidh on the Isle of Lewis. Registered in 1981 and, according to the gov. uk website, has not had an MOT since records were computerised.

Jaguar XJ12 HE

Kevin Mcnerney suspects this Jaguar XJ12 HE could be saved, but it’s stood outside for many years.

VW Transporter, Ford Escort MKIV Estate & MGB GT

Kevin also came across these other classics parked up along a side road in County Kerry; the VW van, Escort estate and MGB GT all look fairly solid and ready for recommissioning.

Ford Cortina 1.6XL

This from Cyprus, found this in Nicosia by Sean Greenwood. Back in the day, almost all of Cyprus’ cars were UK exports and it’s likely this Cortina was one of them, being a right-hand drive model wearing on old-style CY reg plates.

Jaguar E-type remains

An E-type (or part of one) sitting on top of a Ford pickup truck, as found in Michigan USA by Iwan Jones. The Jag is lost in a forest with lots of other classic cars and farm machinery, and Iwan claims it’s a Series 1 3.8-litre.

The other half of this car (minus the bonnet) is on another pick-up nearby.

Jensen Interceptor

A tired Interceptor MKIII in Sydney. Finder Robert Kenn thinks it must have been a UK registered car originally as cars don’t generally rust in the salt-free Aussie climate.

Rolls-royce Corniche

David Howman from Lincolnshire came across this sorry looking Corniche in the Home Counties (cannot be more specific), a halfstarted project reportedly soon to become the property of the bailiffs.

Audi 80

In the window sit three cars covered in dust. This Audi 80 is a midseventies model and appears to be in reasonable nick.

VW Beetle 1303

Next to it an even older VW Beetle 1303, juxtaposed with a Seat Marbella showing the place hasn’t been totally forgotten about, at least since the Nineties.

Renault 5 GT Turbo

This dusty GT Turbo was found by Phil Connor near the infamous town of Famagusta in Northern Cyprus. It seems to be in saveable condition, despite clearly being abandoned a long time ago.

Fiat 124 Sport Coupé

A 124 Sport Coupe is rusting in peace on the other side of the caravan to the Renault – this one has fared far worse in the Cyprus heat and is without most of its glass.

Derelict Dutch dealership

Kevin Woolnough from Ipswich stumbled across what looks like the forgotten leftovers an amazing time-warp car dealer called ‘Garage Van Dam’ in the Netherlands, in a village called Hoogersmilde.
