Lockdown 2.0 – back to the shed

Classic winter shows go virtual, but vaccine news gives hope for 2021 events

-

The November national lockdown saw a number of shows and road runs postponed or cancelled completely, while others continued online or run along different lines.

The ‘Virtual’ Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, brought the community together, celebrating the cars, the people, the clubs and companies online on November 14 – the day-long event included a half-hour slot from the team at Practical Classics.

The London to Brighton run was also run in a different way. Rather than the usual road run from Hyde Park to Madeira Drive in Brighton, veteran cars around the country were asked to do their own 50-mile jaunts on local routes to qualify for the L2B medals.

Practical Classics editor Danny Hopkins took the tiller in is hand as he joined the three oldest Vauxhall’s in the world on a run from Luton to the Shuttleworth Collection and back.

Other events and shows have been pushed into the new year or cancelled outright as virus precautions bite. Individual events have communicated with their customers via websites and on social media while Practical

Classics continues to bring you the very best stories and pictures, despite the team members having to work remotely.

News of the vaccine in early November changed the landscape. Editor Danny Hopkins said: ‘This news makes next year look completely different. We can now plan with some certainty to go to shows. At last!’
