The FBHVC branches out and we tell you how to win a Jaaaag!

The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC) exists to uphold the freedom to use old vehicles on the road. It represents owners of such vehicles to politicians and legislators in the UK and in Europe and, with around 500 subscriber organisations representing over 250,000 people, the FBHVC has clout.

Wayne Scott spoke to us on behalf of the FBHVC, to say:

‘The Federation is undertaking two key initiatives in 2021 and the first is to adjust the balance with Drive It Day, our annual event in April that allows us to celebrate the freedom to drive our classics. A lot of commercial organisations have hijacked Drive It Day, effectively claiming it for themselves to make money from it. But the day isn’t about that; it’s about enjoying your classic and ideally doing something good at the same time.

To that end, Drive It Day 2021 will support Childline, which costs £35,000 per day to run. The Federation would like to raise enough money to pay for one day’s running costs.

‘The FBHVC will be happy to work with anybody who plans to embark on any such undertaking, so please get in touch with us if there’s anything that we can do to help.’

The other FBHVC news is that it is widening its remit to include museums, rather than just clubs. Says Wayne Scott: ‘Museums are part of the fabric of the classic car world and many of them provide venues for clubs to hold their gatherings both large and small.

‘Most museums have had a terrible time this year, so the FBHVC is trying to use the club community to support these destinations. We’re currently working with museums to share resources and ideas, and to connect them with clubs to ensure that 2021 and beyond is as rosy as possible.’
