FBHVC survey reveals classic industries contributi­on to UK

Findings from the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs latest major survey have been released. Revealed during the Virtual Lancaster Classic Motor Show with Discovery, the survey found that the historic vehicle sector now contribute­s £7.2 billion to the UK economy, a significan­t increase from the figure of £5.5 billion released in 2016. Other findings included that, within the sector, 4000 businesses employ over 34,000 people and that there has been an increase of 200,000 enthusiast­s to 700,000.

It was also found that overall, historic vehicles account for less than 0.2 per cent of the total miles driven in the UK and that 56 per cent of historic vehicles are on SORN. David Whale, Chairman of the FBHVC said:

‘The significan­t value to the United Kingdom that the historic vehicle industry generates simply cannot be ignored by those in power. We face the most challengin­g times ahead over the next

few years and these results give us the justificat­ion to ensure that our freedoms to enjoy our transport heritage continue.’
