‘SQUIDGY BROWN VINYL SEATS’
Graham Silverton scores a PC deal
I’d fancied a big Triumph saloon for decades since a neighbour, who was a bit flash, turned up one day in a ’73 2500 PI. And here we are now; maybe not a PI, but a very nice 2000 TC with squidgy brown vinyl seats that burn your legs on a hot day. It was up for £5200, which was very top-end, but armed with your price guide, over tea and biscuits it down to £4200. Still not cheap, but fair for such a good example. I’ve taken the non-standard bits off: towbar, big shelf speakers, modern stereo etc. I’ve made up and had edged carpet mats, sourced a period radio-cassette and refinished the wood trim in satin varnish. I plan to keep it as it might have been at four or five years-old. Not 100% perfect, but tidy and well maintained.
