GETTING BACK TO MODERN CLASSICS

Hitting the road with bold new plans…

-

What’s this, then? Well, Modern

Classics was, for a few years, the definitive magazine for a new generation of classic car fans and now, thanks to our friends at

Practical Classics,

we’re back and in great company.

This year has been tough for everyone, and the print publishing sector has been hit hard. Modern Classics was a victim. As editor, it was heart-breaking, but inevitable.

Putting Modern

Classics together with dedicated colleagues was a pleasure, but what really made the work worthwhile was the response we had. It seems that we really tapped into the enthusiasm out there for newer classics. That’s why, alongside the team at Practical

Classics, I am fully determined to carry on banging the drum for classics that often don’t get the attention they truly deserve.

Cars like the Noughties Aston Martin V8 Vantage. I recall borrowing the example you can see pictured here, a 4.3, for a cover shoot in the Lake District.

The day after the shoot, with a pre-9am meeting scheduled in Peterborough, a very early start delivered one of the most memorable drives across the Pennines I’ve ever had. The nimble chassis and torquey V8 were given a real

workout and I arrived with plenty of time for a coffee and a bacon roll. You can keep your £120k for a new one; I’ll pocket nearly a hundred grand and have the old one!

So welcome back, it is time to celebrate the great drives and those hero cars we all remember from our recent past. It’s also time to celebrate some cars that time has forgotten. Nominations? Email practical.classics @bauermedia.co.uk.
