Bristol Owners’ Club
Connoisseurs of Brit luxury, step this way
The Bristol Owners’ Club (BOC) was formed in 1964 and today comprises a wide range of members, from across the globe, with a mix of longer-time and newer members. Naturally, as the cars have aged, the scope of restoration projects has varied, ranging from minor updates and modifications, through to complete restorations.
To help in maintaining the cars, the BOC has been fortunate, in that when Bristol Cars went into liquidation last year, the club was able to secure the stock of spare parts to save them from being scrapped. Thousands of different parts are now available to any Bristol car owner from Classic Bristol Car Parts Company Limited.
Plenty of other specialists exist to keep the cars in parts, trim, body and mechanical repairs. These include Autocar Repairs, Jonathan Bradburn, Coleman Classics, HC Classics, Mitchell Motors, One-to-one and Spencer Lane-jones. A quarterly A4 48-page publication, the BOC Bulletin, normally carries adverts from those mentioned.
Changing times
The well-established range of annual meetings, from the Concours and Bristol day, to charity shows, new members’ weekends, and car shows such as the NEC Classic Motor Show and London Classic Car Show, has understandably been impacted by COVID-19.
Currently, new socially distanced brunch-style meetings for up to 10 cars have been established. The venues so far have included an airfield cafe and country pubs with their obligatory large gardens. Further attention has been placed, by the BOC, on communication via a regular E-newsletter. This has been following members and their restoration projects, plus up to date information on muchawaited post lockdown activities. These will include motoring tours and trips in the UK and overseas. A highlight is the planned tour of the Silk Road in Central Asia with BOC members from the UK, Eire and Australia shipping their Bristol cars over to take part.
