Policing g WITH PRIDE

BRITISH TRANSPORT POLICE IS A SPECIALIST POLICE FORCE THAT HELPS THE NATION’S TRAVELLING PUBLIC GET HOME EVERY DAY SAFE, SECURE AND ON TIME.

-

They deal with a wide variety of crimes on a daily basis policing stations and over 10,000 miles of rail network on board trains travelling at up to 125mph across Britain. It’s not just about tackling crime; much of their work is about making the travelling public feel safe and secure, interacting and engaging with the communities and people they deal with each day.

Rail passenger numbers have doubled in the last 20 years, with nearly 1.5 billion journeys made in 2013. These figures are expected to grow by 14 per cent during the next five years and a further 90 per cent across long distance corridors by 2034.

Therefore it is vital that British Transport Police can adapt to meet these changes. This is only achievable by inspiring confidence in the communities they serve and fully understanding the challenges faced by the rail industry.

Barry Boffy, Equality and Diversity Manager at British Transport Police, said: “We are particularly proud of our links with the LGBT community and, for several years, have not only worked closely with community leaders and support groups, but have been dedicated to developing our own.

“We are an integral partner in the policing of Pride events across Britain and our officers and members of staff often take part in the various parades and events.

“We know our communities well and we are proud to serve them, but we also know there is room for improvement and, as such, we are always on the lookout for new members of staff or community advisors who can further contribute to our mission of keeping the travelling public safe and secure.”

British Transport Police are looking to expand their workforce with a diverse range of officers and staff who are representative of the communities they serve. Could you make the difference?
