Agift in your Will, however small or large, can help ensure we continue to provide the very best high quality care for all the homeless pets in our four centres. It also enables emergency lifesaving treatment and provides food, bedding, routine veterinary care and plenty of TLC for the variety of animals we look after on a daily basis; as we did for our dear friend Flossie when she could no longer be looked after by her owners.

A lasting gift for animals also keeps our teams on the road, rescuing some of the nation’s discarded and unwanted dogs. Last year, only about half the UK’s stray dog population were reunited with their owners, but thankfully for many of the dogs left behind, Wood Green has provided a lifeline by rescuing and rehoming dogs from dog pounds so they too can find their forever homes. It is thanks to generous individuals that we are able to provide this vital service and we offer our heartfelt thanks to all those that remember the animals in their future plans.

Violet was just one of the 600 homeless and unwanted animals cared for each day by Wood Green. Her story has a happy ending but without the support of animal-lovers from across the UK, her journey could have been very different.

Violet had probably never known a day of love in her life. We strongly suspect she had been used to breed litter after litter of puppies, most likely to be sold. When she was found wandering as a stray, Violet was underweight and suffering from painful skin conditions. On further examination by Wood Green’s on-site veterinary team she was also found to have ovarian tumours. It was here she met Ian from the dog welfare team and her life changed forever.

Despite her traumatic past this sweet-natured and gentle dog still loved human company and whilst all the team fell in love with Violet, it was Ian she formed a special bond with, as he dedicated hours of his own time to Violet giving her the love and attention she craved while she recovered from her ordeal.

After three months of dedicated care, Violet found the fantastic new home she’d always deserved with another canine friend, a Mastiff called Red, and a family who shower her with affection. As Ian said after waving her off: “Everyone here fell in love with Violet and we are absolutely ecstatic to see her go to such a good home, but I’m really going to miss my big girl.” There are so many reasons why pets find themselves at Wood Green. Some, like Violet, have been mistreated or abandoned; some are strays, while others have been given up because their owners simply could no longer look after them, or their circumstances have changed.

If you love animals, and would like to support homeless pets like Violet, Flossie and Belle, please consider including Wood Green, The Animals Charity, in your Will.
