SNACKING brings on the bloat

-

We bet you’re more than a bit tired if you’ve been munching superprocessed snacks on the run. PREVENT IT Snacking is fine if those mini mouthfuls are a combo of protein and carbs, a duo that helps keep blood sugar balanced to knock out fatigue and put a lid on sugar cravings. Our tummy pleasers are:

Boiled eggs and spinach Many supermarkets and coffee shops sell snack pots of these. Or do it yourself and add a few pine nuts.

Corn cakes Our new crush! Spread with almond butter and top with banana. Sushi As long as there isn’t too much rice. Add wasabi to burn fat. Dark chocolate Just a couple of pieces plus a palmful of goji berries – yum! SORT IT Try a herbal tea that supports your digestion, gets the gut moving nicely and knocks out the bloat. Herbalist Stephanie Caley (themedicalherbalist. co.uk) has a brilliant recipe for happy-tummy tea.

‘It’s a useful blend and many of its ingredients can be found in the kitchen,’ says Stephanie. Mix together:

1tbsp dried camomile Good for wind and griping pain.

1tbsp dried peppermint Eases indigestion and bloating.

1.5tbsp cardamom pods Helps relieve wind and spasms.

1.5tbsp fennel seeds Soothes and calms the digestive system.

The cardamom and fennel seeds can be crushed a little to release flavour. To brew, add 2tsp to a mug of hot water and steep for 5mins. Don’t want to
