Under wraps

This cosy wrap is the prettiest way to keep the spring chills at bay

SIZE

Finished size 43cm x 210cm.

MATERIALS

Four 25g balls of Rowan Kidsilk Haze in Pearl 590 (A) and six 50g balls of Rowan Felted Tweed in Granite 191 (B).

Pair of 3.75mm knitting needles.

TENSION

21 sts and 42 rows to 10cm square over garter st using 3.75mm needles and Felted Tweed (B).

NOTE

When working with yarn A, two strands are held and worked together throughout.

FIRST SECTION

With 3.75mm needles and B, cast on 127 sts loosely. Joining in 2 strands of A when required, work in patt as follows:

1st row (RS) With B, k1, [yrn, p5, p3tog, p5, yon, k1] to end. 2nd row With 2 strands of A, p to end. 3rd row With 2 strands of A, k1, [yrn, p5, p3tog, p5, yon, k1] to end. 4th to 11th rows Rep 2nd and 3rd rows 4 times. 12th row With B, p to end. Rep 1st to 12th rows 5 times more, then 1st to 6th rows once again, ending with RS facing for next row. Break off B and cont using 2 strands of A as follows: 79th row (RS) K1, [yf, skpo, yrn, p3, p3tog, p3, yon, k2tog, yf, k1] to end. 80th row and every following WS row P to end. 81st row K1, [yf, k1, skpo, yrn, p2, p3tog, p2, yon, k2tog, k1, yf, k1] to end. 83rd row K1, [yf, k2, skpo, yrn, p1, p3tog, p1, yon, k2tog, k2, yf, k1] to end. 85th row K1,

[yf, k3, skpo, yrn, p3tog, yon, k2tog, k3, yf, k1] to end. 87th row K1, [k3, k2tog, yf, k3, yf, skpo, k4] to end. 89th row K1, [k2, k2tog, yf, k5, yf, skpo, k3] to end.

91st row K1, [k1, k2tog, yf, k7, yf, skpo, k2] to end. 93rd row K1, [k2tog, yf, k9, yf, skpo, k1] to end. 95th row K2tog, yf, [k11, slip next 2 sts as though to k2tog, k1, then pass 2 slipped sts over] to last 13 sts, k11, yf, skpo. 111 sts. 96th row P to end. This completes the lacy border. Break off A and join in B. 97th (dec) row (RS) K5, [k2tog, k3] 20 times, k2tog, k4. 90 sts. Now work in garter st (k every row) until first section measures 105cm from cast on edge, ending with a WS row **. Break yarn and leave sts on a holder. SECOND SECTION

Work as given for first section to **. Break yarn, leaving a long end.

Join sections

Carefully graft together the last row of each section to form the completed wrap.

TO FINISH

Block and press the lacy borders as recommended on the ball bands, omitting the garter st section.
