CUT FOOD WASTE
Brits threw away a whopping £13bn of still-edible food in 2015
– that’s
7.3 million tonnes – according to Love Food Hate Waste. Cutting back on food waste could save the average household around £60 a month.
Planning your meals is not a new idea,
but it saves time and money – especially if you find yourself going to the supermarket several times a week. Come up with a meal for each day of the week and have a few meal plans you can rotate each week.
Need help keeping on top of what’s in your fridge?
Download the Eatby app (free, Apple and Google Play), which helps you organise your food. You scan the items in your fridge or cupboard and enter the use-by dates. The app sends you notifications to remind you when to use the food. Handily, it puts the items that must be eaten the soonest at the top of the list.
If you find yourself tempted by supermarket multi-buy deals
and regularly end up spending more than you planned, stick to online shopping. Although delivery costs are an extra, if you book your slot well in advance they will be cheaper. You can even change your order up to 24 hours beforehand. Most major supermarkets will offer you an annual delivery pass option, too.
Compare supermarkets at mysupermarket.com and you could save up to 30% on your food shop.
