MATERIALS

Five 50g balls of Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino in White 100 (A) and one 50g ball or oddments in each of Bamboo 307 (B) for the face and Wasabi (C) for the crown. Pair of 3.25mm knitting needles or a 3.25mm circular needle.

Oddments of dark brown embroidery thread for facial features. Embroidery needle.

TENSION

25 sts and 34 rows to 10cm square over st-st using 3.25mm needles.

TO MAKE

With 3.25mm needles or circular needle, cast on 144 sts.

If working on the circular needle, work back and forth in rows, not rounds, as follows: K 9 rows.

1st line of squares

1st row (RS) K39, [p1, k1] 16 times, p1, k33, [p1, k1] 16 times, p1, k6.

2nd row (WS) K6, [p1, k1] 16 times, p35,

[k1, p1] 15 times, k1, p34, k6. These 2 rows form the patt for

the first line of squares and are repeated 19 times more.

2nd line of squares

1st row (RS) K6, [p1, k1] 16 times, p1, k33, p1, [k1, p1] 16 times, k39.

2nd row (WS) K6, p34, [k1, p1] 15 times, k1, p35, [k1, p1] 16 times, k6. These 2 rows form the patt for the second line of squares and are repeated 19 times more. 3rd to 6th lines of squares Rep 1st and 2nd lines of squares twice more. K 9 rows. Cast off knitwise on WS.

TO FINISH

Using B and C, Swiss darn the motif in one or more of the st-st squares. With 3 strands of thread, embroider features, using straight stitches.
