Shape shoulders

Cast off 14(16:18), p to until there are 12 sts on right hand needle, turn and cont on these sts only. Work 3 rows in st-st. Cast off knitwise on WS. With WS facing, rejoin yarn to rem sts, p37(39:41) sts and slop these sts on to a holder, cast off rem 26(28:30) sts.

FRONT

Work exactly as for Back to **. Rep the last 8 rows until front measures 30(33:37)cm, ending with a WS row.

Shape front neck and shoulders

Next row (RS) Patt 37(39:41), turn and cont on these sts only, leave rem sts on a spare needle. Keeping patt correct, cast off 3 sts at beg (neck edge) of next row, 2 sts at beg of 3 foll WS rows, then 1 st at beg of next 2 WS rows. 26(28:30) sts rem. Cont straight until the same number of patt rows have been worked as Back to ***, so ending with a RS row. Change to 3mm needles. K 1 row. Buttonhole row (RS) P18(20:22), yrn, p2tog, p to end. Next

NECKBAND

Join right shoulder seam. With 3mm needles, pick up and k21 sts down left front neck, k across 15(17:19) sts at centre front, pick up and k 21 sts up right front neck, k across 37(39:41) sts at centre back, then pick up and k4 sts up left shoulder extension edge. 98(102:106) sts. K 1 row. Next

(buttonhole) row (RS) P2, yrn, p2tog, p to end. P 1 row. Next row P2, k to last 2 sts, p2. Rep last row once more. Cast off purlwise on RS.

TO MAKE UP

Join the left shoulder up to start of shoulder extension. With centre of cast off edge of sleeve to shoulder, sew on sleeves. Join side and sleeve seams. Sew on buttons.
