Clear house, clear mind
Ever feel like your brain is bursting at the seams and you need to escape? Well, decluttering your home could be the key to finding that sense of freedom…
Declutter your home and feel more free
Appointments, dinners, errands… we’re all juggling
a million things at once. And, it turns out, the clutter crammed under our beds, piling up in our cupboards and infiltrating our attics is also taking up precious room in our (already busy) minds.
‘Mental to-do lists cause anxiety, and clutter in your home is almost like a physical version of that,’ says Vicky Silverthorn, professional organiser and author of Start With
Your Sock Drawer (Sphere).
Not convinced? One American study found that women who described their homes as ‘cluttered’ and full of ‘unfinished projects’ were more likely to be depressed or tired. ‘The more stuff you have, the more you’re responsible for. It’s important to free up that mental space, because life is busy enough,’ says Vicky.
By reducing the amount of stuff we have, we can free up head-space for the things that really matter, and feel calmer and happier in the process.
