ON THE HORIZON: BETTER TESTS
The research programme FORECEE (4C), which is funded by The Eve Appeal, is looking at developing one smear test to predict risk for four major women’s cancers: breast, ovarian, cervical and womb. They hope to have the test ready by 2020, enabling significantly more women’s lives to be saved. ‘The test would be at five-year periods and would indicate who should go on for confirmatory genetic testing,’ said Professor Martin Widschwendter, head of the department of women’s cancer at University College London and international lead clinician.
