The joy of KINDNESS

- JO CHECKLEY EDITOR jo.checkley@hearst.co.uk

I count myself very lucky indeed that I have such lovely neighbours. Back in the summer, my friend Lissie brought round a bottle of delicious home-made elderflower cordial. Another good neighbour, Gill, recently delivered a bag of apples she’d gathered after a visit to a local orchard. Gill’s even brought me a plate of freshly baked scones, with thick double cream and jam before saying, ‘Thought you might appreciate a cream tea.’ How kind they are. In fact, writing this makes me realise I really must do more for them! It’s those little acts of kindness that are the real focus of this issue as we celebrate World Kindness Day on 13 November. Along with you lovely readers sharing your own special moments (page 38), we have Nadiya Hussain (page 34) and Gaby Roslin (page 178) telling us about the kind people in their lives. Nadiya’s also given us some lovely recipes in our Baking Special (page 93) – her Caramel Crunch Rocky Road would make a super treat to deliver to someone’s door (note to self: must get baking!). A couple of other highlights in this issue include our feature Your starter for 10 about why us Brits love quiz shows (page 40). My husband and I compete with each other while watching University Challenge (I’m afraid I’m very low scoring). I also love our fashion feature: 6 new looks every woman can wear (page 29). Our stylist Helen Johnson’s great ideas have really inspired me. Do drop me an email telling me what you’ve enjoyed, as it’s always so lovely to hear from you. Until next month…
