A BRIGHT NEW STATION JUST FOR YOU!

Listen up, Baby Boomers, if you feel like other radio stations aren’t really there for you, it’s time to tune into Boom Radio. It’s the brand new station for Baby Boomers, built by Baby Boomers! Veteran radio execs David Lloyd and Phil Riley came up with the plan to launch a radio station unashamedly serving those in their 60s and 70s, just like them. So now you can sit back and listen to all the tunes you love, played by DJS you’ll remember from their heyday.

IT STARTED WITH A BOOM!

Boom Radio launched on Valentine’s Day 2021 with The Beatles’ All You Need Is Love. The radio’s opening sequence also gave a nod to some of the many changes Baby Boomers have seen over the years, from Instamatic to Instagram; Dan Dare to Danny Dyer;

Crossroads to Crossrail; C&A to ebay; Vision On to Bake Off; into the Common Market and back out again; The Beach Boys to The Spice Girls – and the coronation to The Crown! Within the first few weeks on air, the station attracted more than 100,000 listeners.

EVERY SONG’S A SURPRISE

You won’t hear endless records on repeat at Boom Radio. It already has a playlist of more than 10,000 songs – and is adding more each day. You’ll mostly hear the biggest hits from the 1960s and 1970s, plus oldies you may not have heard for years. They will take you right back to when you last heard them as a teenager. Listen out, too, for featured 1950s songs, the B-sides you always wanted to hear, or your favourite album, along with a good mix of modern tunes!

FROM HOME TO HOME

There are no big fancy headquarters for Boom Radio. It prides itself on broadcasting straight from the presenters’ homes to your homes. As the station says: ‘We’re not owned by any major operator – just a group of old friends with a dream.’ Listeners can hear the DJS they enjoyed when they were young and feel like they are meeting up with an old friend.

MEET THE PRESENTERS

Boom Radio has some of your favourite voices from yesteryear. You listened to them when you were younger, now you can pick up where you left off. The presenters are in their 60s, 70s and 80s, but like their listeners they’re still getting the most out of life. How many do you remember?

GRAHAM DENE He woke up Londoners for many years, having taken over the Capital Radio breakfast show from Kenny Everett in 1975. One of his claims to fame is that he was the favourite presenter of Diana, Princess of Wales, who would phone in her requests. Tune in weekdays at 7.30am.

DAVID ‘KID’ JENSEN He’s known for presenting shows on Radio Luxembourg and Radio 1 along with TV work. In 2018, he announced he was living with Parkinson’s but it hasn’t stopped his enthusiasm for music and the Kid is still very much in action. Tune in Friday nights at 9pm.

NICKY HORNE A former favourite of Capital Radio, Nicky played breakthrough music on his show Your Mother Wouldn’t Like It. Now such tracks are classics and Nicky is playing them on Boom. Tune in weekday afternoons at 4pm.

AND THERE ARE MANY MORE… Roger Day, Les Ross, Bill Bingham, David Lloyd, Dave Jamieson, Diana Luke, Jane Markham, John Peters, Graham Torrington, Rod Whiting and Derek Webster.

DAVID HAMILTON ‘Diddy’ David Hamilton was the star of Radio 1 and Radio 2 and a regular face presenting Top Of The Pops. At 82, David believes he is the oldest presenter to help launch a new national radio show. Tune in weekday lunchtimes at 12pm.

JENNY HANLEY A familiar face from her days on the ITV children’s programme Magpie, and she even appeared in the Bond film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Tune in Saturday afternoons at 2pm.

ESTHER RANTZEN She dominated TV for a generation with the consumer programme That’s Life. On Boom she’s joined by her daughter Rebecca Wilcox. Tune in Sunday evenings at 7pm.
