ALL THE INFO

Your questions answered…

-

● WHAT SIZE SHOULD THE

BLANKET BE? The most-needed sizes are medium and large: Medium – 60 × 70in/150 x 180cm or 50 × 70in/130 x 180cm;

Large – 80 × 90in/200 x 230cm or 70 × 90in/180 x 230cm. But don’t worry if your blanket is not exactly the recommended size.

● HOW MANY STITCHES? This depends on your tension. Are you a tight or loose knitter? Ideally, knit a tension square before you start. For example, for DK yarn using a 4mm or 3.75mm needle (UK old sizes 8 or 9), 22 stitches and 28 rows should produce a 4in/10cm square. If your sample square is bigger or smaller, use a bigger or smaller needle.

● IS THERE A DEADLINE?

No, blankets are always needed!

● WHERE CAN I FIND A PATTERN? You can use any pattern you like, or try prima.co.uk/

knitted-blanket. If you want to make a Jubilee pattern, try red, white and blue yarn.

● DOES THE BLANKET NEED BORDERS? Having a border helps stop the edges curling. A simple moss stitch works well: Row 1 K1, p1 or k2, p2; Row 2 Start with p1 or p2, and repeat. You might choose a 2-3in/5-7cm border at the top, bottom and sides.

WHAT YARN? Use whatever yarn you like, but we recommend using yarn up to aran weight.

WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH

THE BLANKET? Once your blanket is complete, you could raffle or sell it to raise funds for Knit for Peace, or send it directly to the charity at Knit for Peace, Radius Works,

Back Lane, Hampstead, London NW3 1HL. For information on how to donate money from the sale of a blanket, visit knitforpeace.org.uk. We’d also love to see pictures of you making the blanket, so please send these to knitforpeace@ charitiesadvisorytrust.org.uk.
