STEVEN WILSON TO INVADE OUR HOMES WITH HIS LATEST LIVE DVD

-

To The Bone DVD gets release date as the British musician begins work on his next solo album.

Bollywood dancers, mesmerising film footage from Lasse Hoile and a captivating career-spanning set – the final night of Steven Wilson’s lavish London residency last March will soon be available to enjoy in the comfort of your living room. Home Invasion: In Concert At The Royal Albert Hall was recorded on the UK leg of the artist’s To The Bone tour and is available on DVD and Blu-ray, with or without the live CD, via Eagle Rock Entertainment from November 2. A deluxe five-vinyl box set with an exclusive bonus EP recorded over the previous nights will also be available via Caroline International on March 20, 2019.

“[A show of this scale is] something I’ve always wanted to do right from the beginning,” says Wilson. “I’ve always been very interested in the possibilities of music and film together partly from being as interested in cinema as I was in music when I was growing up. I was always very excited about the possibilities of fusing the two and, I think, when they go together very well, it’s the most powerful artistic medium of them all.

“Sometimes I take these projectors and films around the world and it ends up looking like a postage stamp projected on a shower curtain because you can’t always get the production in. But at the Royal Albert Hall, you’ve got the space to do it and there are no limitations in terms of what you can achieve visually so it seemed a very logical thing to pick that venue and film that show.”

All versions of the new release feature guest vocalist Ninet Tayeb and a handful of Porcupine Tree reworkings. The DVD and Blu-ray also include Jess Cope’s stunning animations, a special appearance from The Bollywood Company dancers, a brand new interview and an exclusive rehearsal set filmed at the Royal Albert Hall before the evening’s performance.

“Without an audience, the film crew were able to really use that space so those bonus songs have a very different aesthetic to them,” Wilson reveals.“If you came to the show and you’re getting the DVD as a memento then you’ll not only see what you saw on the night, but you’ll also see what you couldn’t see because it was filmed behind closed doors.”

The musician adds,“It’s pretty crazy to think about it, but I feel really at home on that stage. I’ve done that venue several times now and it almost feels like my place, y’know? I think very often with filmed events, the band come across as very stressed, but it was a very relaxed evening. I remember thoroughly enjoying it and feeling

completely at ease with myself. I hope that comes across.”

In the meantime, Steven Wilson takes his To The Bone tour back on the road this autumn with shows confirmed for Japan, Australia, Canada and North America. He returns to Europe early next year and will knuckle down to his sixth fulllength album once he’s back home.

“I’m just beginning to toy with new ideas and new material. I’m in what I call the research and development stage,” he says. “All I’ll say it that it’s going to be completely different to the last record. Something I want to avoid more than anything else is just making the same record in the same style twice and this one is definitely not going to fall into that category! Hopefully it’ll be out in early 2020.”
