ANTIMATTER TACKLE TOUGH THEMES ON THEIR LATEST DISC
Liverpool frontman revisits his past on autobiographical seventh album.
Mick Moss explores the relationship between recreational drugs, spiritual enlightenment and addiction on antimatter’s Black Market enlightenment, out on november 9. and dealing with the personal subject matter wasn’t the only challenge he faced.
“I wanted to pull an album out of myself completely from scratch, which is something I haven’t done since the early days,” Moss says. “It really gave me a lot of freedom to go anywhere. I made a few rules and one of them was to try to write away from the acoustic guitar as much as possible. Instead I would write on keyboards and electric guitar in the hope that would draw a different type of music out.”
the album is mixed by anathema’s Daniel cardoso, who also co-produced antimatter’s 2015 release the Judas table. It finds the Liverpool singer-songwriter once again teaming up with long-term collaborator Vic anselmo, while there’s a guest appearance from armenian folk musician Vardan Baghdasaryan, who plays the stringed kamancheh. Black Market enlightenment is also the first studio album to be released on Moss’ Music In stone imprint.
“I’ve taken the crazy route of self-releasing because [last year’s live DVD] Live Between the earth & clouds went well and I really enjoyed the direct-to-fan route of things rather than sending it through a third party,” he reveals.
antimatter begin their Black Market tour in november and play one uK show at London’s Black Heart at the end of that month. For the full list of dates and more, visit antimatter’s website at www.antimatteronline.com.
