PROTEST THE HERO RETURN AT LAST WITH FIFTH ALBUM
Rody Walker’s vocal issues threatened the completion of
Protest The Hero are to release what Rody Walker describes as “the most difficult record to produce in my entire career.” Palimpsest is out on Spinefarm on June 19.
Says Walker, “I couldn’t be happier with it. It’s unrelenting in its speed and more melodic than ever – two things which I think can sometimes contradict each other, but for us it really works.”
In 2018, while touring in celebration of the 10th anniversary of revered record Fortress, the singer began experiencing problems with his voice. The tour had to be pulled and tracking for their fifth album was put on hold while he recovered. It’s taken two years, but the record is finally ready to see the light of day.
Walker admits he felt trepidation about recording the track From The Sky because it had been written before his voice issues arose. “It has everything in it that was causing me problems,” he explains. “I kept putting it off. Then when I finally got down to it, the words just flew out of my mouth. I fought for that one to be the second single because I wanted people to hear how happy I was with that. That’s my number one moment from the record.”
He adds:“It’s been a long time since I’ve felt this happy about music I’ve written. It feels like we’ve been sitting on these songs forever so we’re super excited to vomit it out into this world.”
