Mo Farah, Laura Trott, Max Whitlock, Jason Kenny, Charlotte Dujardin… just a handful of the stars of Team GB, who did the nation proud at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

A little closer to home, RAIL’s favourite feline Felix has also been putting her best feet forward, raising thousands of pounds with her own athletic prowess.

Felix has the official title of Senior Pest Controller for TransPennine Express at Huddersfield station ( RAIL 799).

On August 12 a tiny GPS measuring and tracking device was attached to her collar, and recorded her progress as during the course of the day she made enough tours of her station territory ( punctuated by a few catnaps) to complete the Fairy 5k challenge to raise money for the Fairy Bricks charity.

The charity, based in Huddersfield, brightens the lives of sick children across the country through LEGO. It buys, collects and builds sets that are then delivered to hospitals to keep the children on the wards entertained.

As an extra special accompaniment to Felix’s 5k, the charity teamed up with Bright Bricks, the UK’s only LEGO-certified professional building company, to build a lifesized version of TPE’s VIP (very important pussycat!). Andy McClements, TPE’s spokesman for Felix, said: “Fairy Bricks do such amazing work by putting smiles on children’s faces through LEGO, and so when Felix and the team found out about the 5k challenge it was a no-brainer. The only condition was that it couldn’t get in the way of the day job - those pests won’t control themselves!”

As this issue of RAIL went to press, Felix had smashed her £ 3,000 target, raising £ 3,183 for Fairy Bricks.

The charity’s Kevin Gascoigne said: “This will truly improve these children’s lives. Thank you to everybody who has donated so far, and there is still time to do so if you’d like to help. Felix is an international star so to have her supporting us is great - hopefully she likes her LEGO self.”
