Team in place to enhance performance in Scotland’s North East
Transport Scotland has created a northeast team tasked with reviewing options for capacity improvements.
The Aberdeen to Central Belt team was announced by Scottish Transport Minister Humza Yousaf on March 17. It will look at capacity improvements between Aberdeen and Dundee, as well as options for doubling the track between Usan Junction and the South Esk viaduct at Montrose.
Members of the team will be drawn from TS, Nestrans and Tactrans, the ScotRail Alliance, and freight and passenger operators.
“Our aim is to ensure the rail service between Aberdeen and the Central Belt improves transport connectivity and provides enhanced performance between cities,” said Yousaf.
The team is expected to start work in April, and this will be undertaken in relation to the Scottish Government’s additional £200 million investment, announced alongside the Aberdeen City Region Deal, with the intention to deliver improvements within the ten-year city deal period.
