‘47’ and ‘50’ make it 16 visitors for Severn Valley gala

A Class 47/0 and a Class 50 have been added to the Severn Valley Railway diesel gala line-up on May 18-20.

Crewe Heritage Trust 47192 and Garcia Hanson’s 50008 Thunderer will join 14 other visitors, with more set to be announced. It means there will be two Class 47s and four Class 50s at the event.

Visiting locomotive­s will be: D8568, 20189, 20205, 31271 Stratford 1840-2001, 33035, 33108, D6700 (37119), 45041 Royal Tank Regiment, 45060 Sherwood Forester, 47192, 47828, 50008 Thunderer, 55022 Royal Scots Grey, a GB Railfreigh­t Class 66/7, a GBRf Class 73 and a visitor from DB Cargo UK, although a class has not been specified.

Resident locomotive­s in action will be: D1015 Western Champion, D1062 Western Courier, D2961, D3586 (08471), D4100 (09012) or 12099, D9551, D8059 (20059), D8188 (20188), 50031 Hood, 50035 Ark Royal and 50049 Defiance.

A rake of Mk 2 air-conditione­d coaches is being hired for the gala, which also marks the first time two ‘45/0s’ have worked alongside each other in preservati­on.

Tickets are £23.80 for a day rover if booked in advance (£26.50 on the day), £37.80 for two-day tickets (£42 on the day) or £52.20 for three-day tickets (£58 on the day). Senior, child and family tickets are available, and booking fees apply.
