Moroccan business

The country relies heavily on both import and export. In 2002 a growing manufacturing sector accounted for 24% of total exports, mainly consisting of textiles and clothing.

Tourism is another crucial business for the country. The first stage of the HS route does not serve the main tourist spots of Casablanca or Agadir, although in time, it is expected that it will.

The ports will play a vital role. In 2014 Morocco was the 54th largest importer in the world, with £ 35.92 billion brought into the country. This increased at an annualised rate of 7.1% from 2009. Refined petroleum is the highest commodity imported (8.09% of the total imports), followed by crude petroleum (6.53%). The top import destinations were Spain, France, China, America and Germany.

As for exports, it is the 68th largest export economy as of 2014. This was worth £ 22.24bn.

The top exports were insulated wire, cars, mixed mineral or chemical fertilisers, phosphoric acid and non-knit women’s suits. The top destinations for Moroccan products were Spain, France, Brazil, Italy and Germany.
