Eleven of the 20 franchise operators recorded a higher percentage of trains on time in Q4 2016-17, compared with the corresponding quarter last year.
Caledonian Sleeper recorded the highest PPM improvement (up 6.8pp to 92.0%). The ORR puts this down to more benign weather and improved fleet reliability.
For the fifth successive quarter, South West Trains recorded a year-on-year fall in its quarterly PPM. Its 87.8% score in Q4 2016-17 was 1.4pp down on Q4 last year. This was put down to an increase in track faults and delays at stations, as well as operational incidents including an object being struck on the line near Wimbledon.
