TfL seeks new trains for DLR

-

Transport for London will introduce 43 new 87-metrelong Docklands Light Railway (DLR) trains from 2022, offering 30% more capacity.

The trains will have walkthrough carriages and will feature air-conditioning as well as mobile device charge points. Two-thirds of the existing fleet will be replaced. It launched a search for a supplier on May 17.

Danny Price, TfL’s Director of DLR, said: “Ordering them now ensures that we get the best value for money in the long term, and can support continuing growth in east London. We intend to go out to tender later this year with the new trains entering service from 2022.”

The contract is expected to be awarded in the summer.
