Respect for Beeching
Greg Morse misunderstands the attitude of the immortal Gerry Fiennes to Lord Beeching ( RAIL 824).
Fiennes regarded the ‘Good Doctor’ (as he invariably termed him) as one of only two bosses he truly respected during his 40-year career in the railways.
This was not surprising. As chairman, Beeching began the total reorganisation of BR that transformed it into Europe’s most efficient railway network by the 1980s. Nicholas Faith, London
