Agreement for more rail services to Heathrow
Transport for London, the Department for Transport and Heathrow Airport have agreed a commitment to boost the number of rail services to the airport from December 2019. At least 22 trains per hour will connect Heathrow with central London, up from today’s 18.
The 22tph will comprise 12 on London Underground’s Piccadilly Line, four Heathrow Express services, and six Elizabeth Line (Crossrail) services. Four of these Elizabeth Line services will serve terminals 2, 3 and 4, with two serving terminals 2,3 and 5.
A joint feasibility study has also begun to consider increasing the number of Elizabeth Line services even further, to eight per hour.
Heathrow Chief Executive Officer John Holland-Kaye said: “This agreement is a big step forward. Together Heathrow, TfL and the DfT are working together to boost rail connections to the UK’s hub, giving our passengers more choices to travel sustainably between Heathrow and London.”
London’s Transport Commissioner Mike Brown added: “We have been working with Heathrow on how we can deliver the best services for customers to and from the airport.
“It is great news that we can now confirm that the Elizabeth Line will serve all the terminals.”
