TfL confirms Croxley funding gap

-

Transport for London says the planned Metropolitan Line extension from Croxley to Watford Junction will cost £50 million more than the £284.4m already committed, and that it does not have the funding to cover the extra costs.

The project would use the disused Croxley Green branch, with a new viaduct connecting it to the Metropolitan Line north of Croxley. The current station at Watford would close in favour of new stations at Cassiobridge, Vicarage Road and Watford High Street before connecting with the West Coast Main Line at Watford Junction.

It is being funded by TfL, Hertfordshire County Council, the Department for Transport, Watford Borough Council and Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership. TfL took over responsibility for designing and building the extension from Hertfordshire Council in 2015.

TfL said: “The Mayor of London believes that the DfT and the other funding partners need to agree how the additional costs will be met. This is now being discussed between the funding partners.”
