Reinstate Swaffham

I would be interested to know if there is a list of closed lines that could be considered for reopening ( RAIL 823).

I have lived in Swaffham for just over two years, and have noted the proposed projects for new housing that are being considered. This is another town that lost its railway back in the 1960s, linking it with King’s Lynn in the west to Dereham in the east, and which perhaps should be considered for reinstatement.

Part of the route is still in use from King’s Lynn to Middleton, mainly for stone trains. Although the route has been partly built over by the A47, there is sufficient space at overbridges to allow reinstatement of the railway, instead of expanding the A47 to dual carriageway.

There is also a proposal for a ‘Norfolk Orbital Railway’ linking Sheringham to Fakenham and Dereham. Was this proposal mentioned in that report? Paul McMahon, Swaffham
