Rail Delivery Group welcomes HS2 proposals

-

The Rail Delivery Group (RDG) has welcomed the Government’s route decision on HS2 Phase 2.

“Rail companies are working together to ensure that HS2 - a vital addition to the more modern railway Britain needs - is integrated seamlessly into the network,” said Chief Executive Paul Plummer.

“New high-speed lines will add much-needed space for more and faster trains as we invest to improve now and for the long term, connecting the country, creating long-term high-skilled jobs and making journeys better.”

A more nuanced response came from West Yorkshire Combined Authority, which said: “We will need to study the proposals closely and prepare a thorough response, to ensure the best results and benefits for residents and businesses right across the City Region are taken into consideration.

“However, we are pleased at this announcement of some real progress on HS2, which will transform West Yorkshire’s transport system by providing much-needed extra capacity and will, as a result, deliver a huge boost to economy right across the City Region.

“We are determined that the benefits of HS2 should be felt right across our Region, and are pleased to see that these proposed changes could open up opportunities for greater integration with Transport for the North’s Northern Powerhouse Rail network.

“Now that the route has been announced we will be continuing to impress upon HS2 Ltd the importance of working with communities along the route on the local impacts and implications.”
