‘Heavy’ going for VTEC apprentices!
Two Virgin Trains East Coast (VTEC) apprentices from Craigentinny depot in Edinburgh have completed a week-long secondment at the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust in Darlington.
They helped to shape and fabricate boiler cladding for new-build ‘P2’ 2-8-2 steam locomotive 2007 Prince of Wales, which is under construction.
VTEC Engineering Director John Doughty said: “Our sponsorship of the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust gives our apprentices the opportunity to experience a very valuable taste of the heavier side of railway mechanical engineering.”
