Great Central rejected

I am experiencing déjà vu when correspondents put forward the ‘new’ idea that the old Great Central should be reopened.

Around 20 years ago a company called Central Railway did a lot of work on this. It was rejected by Parliament for all sorts of reasons.

It has been closed for 50 years, and vast tracts have been lost or built over. It is, in effect, a new railway with all the problems that incurs. Bill Craven, Daventry
