Unnecessary paint job?

We have been told here in the South West that Great Western Railway intends to eliminate the use of Class 143, ‘150/0’ and ‘153’ units and only use ‘150/2s’ and ‘158s’.

Given this information, why is it spending money refurbishing and painting ‘143s’ and ‘153s’ into GWR green livery? Jim Wigmore, Dawlish
