Bank Holiday engineering works
Network Rail says the majority of its August Bank Holiday engineering works on August 26-28 were completed on time, with an extensive programme on the West Coast Main Line in particular.
While there were technical difficulties at London Waterloo ( RAIL 835), High Speed 2 preparation works at London Euston were finished on time. These involved re-routing a major power supply to the station to allow further preparatory works to take place.
Elsewhere on the WCML, track renewals between Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamsted were completed, as were renewals near Watford. Drainage was upgraded at Primrose Hill, and extensive tamping works took place at Bletchley.
On the Great Eastern Main Line, 1km of overhead catenary was replaced at Brentwood, and preparatory works for catenary replacement were completed at Ilford and Manor Park. At Pudding Mill Lane (Stratford), 200 metres of track was installed to prepare for the connection of Crossrail to the main line.
On the Chase line between Rugeley Trent Valley and Walsall, upgrade works continued, with the route handed back on August 29 following its closure from August 13.
Track was replaced and realigned at various locations on the route, piling for the remaining overhead line electrification stanchions was installed, stanchions and gantries were installed elsewhere, and Bloxwich level crossing and Landywood and Stoneyfields footpath crossings were closed.
