WELCOME to the RAIL Crossword. In this issue two successful solvers can each win a copy of The Power of the Class

43, a double DVD featuring Class 43s in action, courtesy of British Railways.tv ( www. britishrailways.tv).

The Class 43 is the fastest diesel locomotive in the world, with a maximum speed of 148mph (although service speeds are restricted to 125mph).

A total of 197 HST power cars were built between 1975 and 1982 by BREL at its Crewe works. Those in use with Great Western Railway and Virgin Trains East Coast are now entering their final months of service, although some GWR sets are to be converted for use with ScotRail.

This double DVD features Class 43s in action between 1995 and 2002, in a variety of liveries including Intercity Swallow, First Great Western, Virgin Trains, GNER and Midland Mainline.

Locations are just as varied, with footage from Cardiff, Dawlish, Derby, Didcot, Doncaster, Eastleigh, Leamington Spa, Newport, Norton Bridge, Oxford, Peterborough, Sheffield, Stafford, Swindon, Water Orton and more!

Also featured are several HST drags, power cars on test runs, and short set workings.

Retailing at £9.99, the DVD’s running time comes in at an impressive 2hrs 20 mins.

Send your completed crossword and contact details to: R840 Crossword Competition, RAIL Magazine, Media House, Lynchwood, Peterborough Business Park, Peterborough PE2 6EA.

Closing date for entries is December 8 2017.
