Salfords: The opening in February of the £1.5 million footbridge over the four-track Brighton Main Line has eliminated what was reckoned to be the UK’s busiest level crossing, with over 760 trains each weekday.
Salisbury: Proposals to redevelop the derelict site of the former steam depot to the west of the station appear to have come to nothing, because of the high level of ground contamination. It is owned and managed by Wiltshire Council.
Welbourne: Hampshire County Council and Network Rail agree that a new station on the Fareham- Eastleigh line might be viable, despite its £ 80 million estimated cost. It would serve a 6,000home township.
Wimbledon: The Rail Accident Investigation Branch inquiry into the slow- speed derailment of a heavilyloaded South West Trains electric multiple unit at the station on November 6 2017 has criticised the confusion between Network Rail and London Underground over ownership of the track, which had not been maintained for many years.
