Survey helicopter to headline NR display at
NETWORK Rail’s high-tech survey helicopter and sophisticated drones are primed to be key elements of NR’s display at this year’s Rail Live, taking place at Quinton Rail Technology Centre, Long Marston (Warwickshire) on June 20-21.
Both are part of NR’s vital Air Operations team, which surveys the network - often unnoticed and with no disruption to services or maintenance work taking place.
The helicopter is equipped with high-definition thermal and visual imaging equipment to survey the railway by air, identifying the smallest of faults and covering vast areas of the network quickly. Members of its highly trained operations team will be on-hand at the two-day event, to inform visitors about this aircraft’s vital role in improving performance and reliability on the network.
Alongside the helicopter, the Unmanned Aircraft Systems team - the only certified drone operators permitted to provide services within 50 metres of NR infrastructure - will display its sophisticated equipment used to survey for regular maintenance needs or following an incident.
NR’s drones enable close-up inspection of areas where access is difficult, such as roofs, bridges and overhead wires.
Both teams will be available to discuss the services they can provide to rail businesses, such as project site surveys and inspection of structures.
More features and exhibits are being confirmed for Rail Live, and will be announced over the coming weeks.
